Essentials For Gorilla Trekking In Uganda

When the jungle calls, we take drastic measures to ensure the safety of our clients. The following are the essentials for gorilla trekking.

Gorilla Permit

One of the essentials for gorilla trekking in Uganda is the gorilla permit. For anyone to participate in the trekking experience, permits are essential. The permits are booked any day before the scheduled day of trekking at a fee of 800 USD for foreign non-residents, 700 USD for foreign residents, and 350,000 UGX for Ugandans and East African residents. So, before you pack your bags, ensure you have booked your permit.

Jungle Shoes/Hiking Boots

Bwindi impenetrable forest and Mgahinga National Park are forests and homes for dangerous animals, for instance, snakes and poisonous frogs; therefore, one needs to carry a pair of hiking boots for trekking.

Since trekking takes about 3-6 hours depending on the location of the gorillas, hiking boots give comfort while trekking and are highly recommended due to the nature of the forests.

Insect Repellents And Sunscreen

We all know discovering hidden gems is one of the amazing things about travel. However, this comes with a price. An experience with the gorillas can be interrupted by the constant insect bites, so we recommend insect repellents to be among the essential things to pack for gorilla safari because your safety matters most.

As you pack, you will also need sunscreen. It is advisable to carry sunscreen due to the change in weather patterns.

First Aid Kit

First aid is the emergency treatment one receives before being taken to the hospital. For any travel and road trips, there will be headaches and stomach upsets fostered by many factors, such as long drives, weather, way of life, and food.

Therefore, it’s important to pack a first aid kit for emergencies. The kit should include painkiller tablets, plasters, bandages, razor blades, and alcohol pads. Gloves, tweezers, and thermometers shouldn’t be left out.

Back Pack

A backpack is essential when planning a gorilla trekking safari. Having a backpack with you during trekking will save you a lot from the hustle of carrying things in your hands. Since trekking is not an hourly activity, you will need a small backpack with the few essentials you need while trekking, for instance, a water bottle, snacks, gum, a power bank, personal medication, and sunscreen. Water, batteries, sunglasses, and a hat.

A Camera

Photos are the hard copy of a memorable safari experience. The most wonderful moment of a trip is taking that picture next to the gorillas. Embrace your memories by carrying a camera as you pack for your safari. Don’t miss out on the exciting bit of travel.

While using the camera, please ensure the flashlight is off while taking the picture. Don’t forget to carry an extra battery to capture every moment of your trip.

Warm Clothing/Pants

Gorilla trekking starts very early in the morning with high altitude and unexpected rain in the forest; therefore, we advise you to pack heavy clothes, for instance, heavy jackets, sweeter, warm sweater pants, track pants, and scarves, among others.

Pants are suitable for gorilla trekking in a chilled environment and also act as safety measures in the wilderness from animal bites.

Gorilla Trekking Experience And Encounter

Spend the day in the wilderness on an adventure of a lifetime. The breathtaking walks through the impenetrable forest in search of the Gentle Giants create a remarkable experience. Guided by trekkers, every step adds to the anticipation and excitement of what lies ahead. The trek itself can vary in duration and intensity, depending on the gorilla family’s location and movements.

The face-to-face encounter with a gorilla family is a truly magical one. Time seems to stand still as you observe these gentle giants in their natural habitat, going about their daily lives with a sense of serenity, yet perceiving the subtle expressions of curiosity, playfulness, and affection is an experience that touches the very core of one’s being.

The Best Time To Visit For Gorilla Trekking

African safaris are at their peak during the dry season, and so is gorilla trekking. The best time for gorilla trekking is from June to early October, then from mid-December to March. During this period, accommodation is expensive since it is the peak season. There are more sunny days and dry ground, gorillas are easily spotted, and the views are marvelous.

The wet season is also an amazing time visit for budget travelers to trek since most of the accommodation facilities lower their rates, and there are few people in the park, which is an advantage.
