The Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo is East Africa’s tourism signature event that brings together tourism stakeholders to one ideal meeting place to meet and network with exhibitors, buyers, investors and suppliers of services in the tourism sector from all over the world.
The 2023 Expo witnessed an impressive turnout of more than 100 buyers hailing from various countries across the globe, including Nigeria, the United Kingdom, the United States, Egypt, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, South Sudan, Germany, and many others. The event took place at the picturesque Speke Resort Munyonyo, where attendees had the opportunity to relish a stunning lake view while engaging with each other.
Although some buyers faced initial challenges, such as glitches in the portal and difficulties in connecting with us, the situation gradually improved as UTB, promptly responded by deploying skilled technicians to assist both buyers and exhibitors in scheduling meetings, effectively addressing the issue.
Over the course of the first day, we had the privilege of engaging with buyers and various tourism stakeholders who visited our booth, E83 Sites Travel, as per our scheduled meetings on the portal. This provided us with invaluable opportunities to establish connections, foster relationships, and discuss potential collaborations in the tourism industry.
On the second day, we embarked on a city tour with the buyers we met at the POATE meeting. The tour was filled with memorable experiences as we admired the panoramic views of Kampala’s hills from the Ghaddafi Mosque. We then visited Mengo palace to delve into the captivating history of the Buganda Kingdom. The downtown area offered an exciting atmosphere, and we explored the vibrant Owino market, the lively Nakasero fruit market, and even had the chance to savor the delicious Rolex dish.
On the third day, all buyers were treated to captivating Fam trips, visiting diverse tourist attractions in the beautiful “Pearl of Africa.” Some explored Queen Elizabeth, Ngamba Island, and the Ndere Cultural Centre, immersing themselves in cultural dances and activities. Additionally, the visitors thoroughly enjoyed a guided tour of Kampala city.
The buyers expressed their admiration for the calm, friendly, and warm hospitality of the Ugandan people, creating a delightful and welcoming atmosphere throughout their stay. They also savored the mouthwatering local cuisine, including a notable dish that is often mistaken for a watch but is, in fact, a delectable culinary creation.
We would want extend our gratitude to UTB Their generous support made the event a resounding success, leaving a lasting impression on all participants. One of the attendees, Zaritha, particularly cherished her time in Uganda, as can be seen in the accompanying video capturing her experience.
