"Transforming Ugandan Tourism": 50 Tourism Companies Trained by CBI to Enhance Country's Marketing Efforts, Including Sites Travel

In an effort to promote Uganda as a favored tourist destination, a total of 50 tourism companies, including Sites Travel, have undergone training to enhance their marketing capabilities.

Under the management of the Netherlands CBI – Centre for the Promotion of Imports from developing countries, the ‘Transforming Ugandan Tourism’ project recently facilitated a rigorous 3-day training session for Ugandan inbound tourism companies. This training took place from March 15-17, 2023 at the Speke Resort and Conference Centre in Kampala, as part of the project’s multi-year framework.

On Day 1, tourism experts/trainers Bertrand Carrier and Marlon van Hee, shared with the trainees the most up to date tourism market intelligence about the different European source markets.

Emilie Hagedoorn, a tourism enthusiast took care of Day 2 which was all about sustainability in tourism.

On Day 3, trainers worked with the trainees in groups to develop/adjust Uganda tour programs, tailor these for specific European (niche) market segments and include sustainability and community experiences.

The grueling three-day training session proved to be fruitful, with impressive levels of engagement and successful outcomes. The participants enjoyed some light-hearted moments, including dancing and having fun. Following the training, there were over 45 one-to-one meetings between the Ugandan tourism companies and potential local coaches/facilitators. Additionally, two meetings were held with the Uganda project team, and an excursion into the swamp near Entebbe to spot the elusive Shoebill bird was organized
